Chennai: Anna University has launched focused training told help final year students clear their papers if they have one or two arrears. This will allow them to sit for campus placements or take entrance tests such as GATE for higher education.The university has identified 150 students in their seventh semester across its four campuses, including College of Engineering, Guindy (CEG), AC Tech and Madras Institute of Technology (MIT).“Subject experts will address learning gaps and train the students every day for two months to help them clear arrears. We have launched the training for AC Tech students,” said an official from the university.A majority of students have arrears in engineering maths, which they study in the first three semesters of the degree programme.“Students have to study and clear the subject in 90 days. Many will struggle to adapt to higher-level engineering maths. Poor teaching at the school level and Covid-19 pandemic have made maths a tough subject for them,” said a professor from the university.Professors also said that schools must make learning maths a fun activity, and that teachers should try to teach the applications of the concepts they learn at secondary and higher secondary levels.
