Covid-19 is an infectious disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, according to the World Health Organisation.

Most people infected with the virus experience mild to moderate respiratory illness and recover without requiring special treatment. However, some may develop severe illness and require medical attention, its website said.

Older adults and people with underlying medical conditions such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, chronic respiratory disease or cancer are at a higher risk of developing severe illness, the WHO added.
