Vijayawada: In a significant move to ensure transparency and accuracy, the school education department has issued fresh guidelines for the evaluation of Class 10 answer sheets, warning of strict action against staff found negligent in mark registration, reverification, and recounting processes.
According to the new orders, evaluation of Class 10 papers will be conducted from April 4 to 10, 2026. This year, authorities have decided to implement rules similar to those followed in intermediate examinations to minimise errors and protect students from injustice.
The decision comes in the wake of discrepancies reported last year, where mistakes in mark calculation created anxiety among students and parents. To prevent a repeat, the department has introduced stricter monitoring and accountability measures. Notably, staff found responsible for errors may face penalties, including fines.
Officials said the use of digital tools such as tabs for recording marks will play a key role in reducing manual errors. The move is expected to improve efficiency and ensure greater accuracy in the evaluation process.
In cases where discrepancies or negligence are detected, detailed reports will be submitted to the commissioner and director of school education. Concerned staff will first be issued notices seeking explanations. Based on their responses, further action will be determined in accordance with departmental rules, including fines up to Rs 6,000 and increment cuts.
Education experts have welcomed the initiative, stating that such measures will enhance credibility in the examination system and build confidence among students.
