Lucknow: SGPGIMS’s department of anaesthesiology is highlighting comprehensive care as the way forward in patient care, underlining the role of anaesthesiologists beyond the operating theatre. The department highlighted the concept while celebrating its 39th foundation day on Saturday.“Public awareness about anaesthesia remained limited, with patients often unaware of the increasing complexity of care as surgical volumes rise,” said HoD, Prof Sanjay Dhiraj.He said the department, which began with just two OTs, now caters to more than 50.SGPGIMS director Prof RK Dhiman urged department’s faculty, resident doctors, nursing and technical staff to strive for excellence. Dean Prof Manoj Jain commended the department for introducing courses in anaesthesiology for the benefit of medical students and patients.Prof PK Singh, former vice-chancellor of UP University of Medical Sciences, Saifai, and former director of AIIMS Patna, delivered the Prof Soma Kaushik lecture where he spoke about departmental functioning and management through collective responsibility.The department also felicitated staff members for their performance in 2026. Dr Tapas Kumar Singh received the best faculty award. .
