Hyderabad: Police in the newly formed Malkajgiri commissionerate are in the process of making an amusement licence mandatory for star hotels, theatres, pubs and other establishments within their jurisdiction. At present, there is no record of the number of establishments operating under its jurisdiction. In neighbouring Cyberabad, since 2024, police have made it mandatory for establishments to obtain an amusement/establishment licence to ensure compliance. An amusement licence will be issued only after the establishment produces a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the district fire officer confirming fire safety compliance, a trade licence from local municipal authorities, a certificate from the local health officer, approval from the town planner, a copy of building permission, and other relevant documents.“This is necessary to ensure that safety precautions are followed by establishments where the public is expected in large numbers. This exercise will also help identify properties that do not meet safety norms,” a source in Malkajgiri police told TOI.Star hotels, farmhouses, resorts, pubs, bars, restaurants and other large establishments are expected to obtain police permission under Malkajgiri in the future. Officials are currently creating the required infrastructure and trying to collect information about these establishments. As of now, the police do not have centralised data on establishments in their area, particularly theatres. In Hyderabad, too, obtaining an amusement licence was made mandatory last year. There are 27 police stations in the newly created Malkajgiri commissionerate, including Begumpet, Kharkhana and Trimulgherry, which were recently carved out from Hyderabad.
