Chennai: A cleanup operation to remove the remnant ammonia at a private seafood processing unit at Kannigaipair village in Tiruvallur, where the accidental leak of the gas led to the death of 17 people, has been ordered by Tiruvallur district collector S Kavitha.An expert team has set up elaborate safety measures for the two-day operation on Saturday. A note from the Tiruvallur district collectorate said that industries, houses and shops within 300m radius of the unit will be closed, and people will be relocated to safety before 6pm on Friday. Vehicle movement will be restricted on NH 716 on Saturday and Sunday. A control room will be set up at the local revenue office, and personnel from various departments will be present at the site. An emergency helpline (9952590412) has been set up by the district administration.
