Bhubaneswar: DCP Jagmohan Meena’s unexpected resignation has sparked speculation about the reasons behind his decision. Meena, 37, has been serving as Bhubaneswar’s deputy commissioner of police for 17 months. His promotion to DIG rank was expected within the next six months, making his exit all the more surprising.“He is only 37 and was appointed as the capital DCP barely a year and a half ago. His promotion was due soon. There seems to be more to his claim of quitting on personal grounds. There is a buzz that he felt suffocated and insulted over leadership issues within the force. His request to go on deputation to NIA was rejected by the state police,” said a senior IPS officer.Opposition parties suggested the move could be linked to workplace pressure and political interference, a charge denied by the BJP. “Previous govts used police and bureaucrats as political tools. People know about a powerful IAS couple who joined BJD after quitting their jobs,” BJP spokesperson Manoj Mohapatra said.Breaking his silence a day after TOI reported the development, Meena said, “I want to state clearly that there is no external or political pressure on me. The decision was not sudden. I had been planning to quit for some time, after consulting my family and friends. My resignation is under process and has not yet been accepted by the govt.”
