Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his 2026 Independence Day address, outlined an ambitious nuclear energy target for India, saying the country aims to achieve 100 GW of nuclear power capacity by 2047. He said five new nuclear reactors are being planned as part of the expansion. Modi also highlighted India’s focus on exploring the country’s vast maritime resources, saying areas previously considered “no-go” zones would be opened for exploration. Referring to the Samudra Manthan initiative, he stressed the importance of harnessing India’s ocean resources for national development.
