Ahmedabad: To acquire land for the ambitious Rs 5,050 crore Sardar Patel Sports Enclave project around the Narendra Modi Stadium without incurring extra expenditure, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has decided to change the purpose of four plots in Sabarmati TP Scheme No. 23 initially reserved for parks and urban forests to ‘social infrastructure’. The AMC standing committee at its Friday meeting approved this proposal put forth by the civic administrator. In all, 21 govt and private plots have been identified for acquisition for the enclave project. Confirming the change, an AMC official said, “The proposal for the fourth amendment in Sabarmati TP Scheme No. 23 has been approved, changing the purpose of four different plots meant for gardens, urban forests, etc, to social infrastructure. The total area of these four plots is 56,845 sq metres. This will make land available for the construction of the Sardar Patel Sports Enclave. Now, the process to allocate this land for the project will commence.“An official from the Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (Auda) said, “The land around the Narendra Modi Stadium includes govt, private, and reserved plots in TP schemes. Planning is underway to acquire 4-5 lakh sq metres of land around it without incurring costs. The AMC has identified over 21 plots and the process of amending related TP schemes to acquire these private and govt-owned plots has been initiated.“A source further added, “A significant portion of land around the Narendra Modi Stadium is govt-owned. Besides this, there are Sabarmati TP Scheme No. 23, Motera TP Scheme No. 21, and Motera TP Scheme No. 48. Therefore, at the standing committee’s Friday meeting, the purpose of four plots in Sabarmati TP Scheme No. 23 was changed to social infrastructure. The purpose of plots in other TP schemes will also be changed. Furthermore, the process of re-allocating privately owned open plots is being planned. Once all the land is available, the tender to build the enclave will be floated.”
