Guwahati: The upcoming ‘Maharaj Prithu’ flyover, which is over 5 kilometres long and connects the Ambari area to Bamunimaidam along the MRD Road, will be inaugurated on March 10, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced.Making the announcement during a live session on his Facebook account on Saturday, Sarma said, “Many people have been asking me when the new Maharaj Prithu flyover would be inaugurated. I am pleased to say that it will be inaugurated on the evening of March 10.”
Sarma added that on March 11, the Diphu and Jorhat flyovers will be inaugurated, along with the Freedom Movement Park at Jorhat Central Jail.The flyover is named after Maharaja Prithu, the 13th-century ruler of Kamarupa renowned for his military resistance against early Muslim invasions. The construction of the flyover began shortly after CM Sarma laid the foundation stone on Jan 1, 2024. Once completed, it will significantly improve connectivity between Ambari and Bamunimaidam.Regarding the choice of material, PWD official also highlighted that fabricated steel girders were selected over conventional RCC structures for their durability, ease of handling, and considerably faster installation.The project was constructed at an estimated cost of over Rs 800 crore, reflecting a significant investment in the state’s infrastructure and connectivity.
