Ahmedabad: In a student-friendly move aimed at improving access to textbooks, the Gujarat State School Textbook Board on Friday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with e-commerce platform Amazon to facilitate online delivery of textbooks to students. The agreement was signed in Gandhinagar in the presence of education minister Pradyuman Vaja.Under the initiative, called “Textbooks to Students with Just One Click”, students and parents will be able to order textbooks through Amazon and have them delivered directly to their homes, eliminating the need to visit bookstores or distributors.Vaja said the initiative marks a significant step towards ensuring “Ease of Education” in the digital age. As part of the agreement, textbooks published by the Gujarat State School Textbook Board for all standards and mediums will be available on the Amazon platform.Students and parents will not have to pay any delivery charges, with books being delivered at only their printed price. While free textbooks provided by the state govt will continue to be distributed through the existing system, those who need to purchase books can now do so online.Board chairman Manu Pawara said the facility would especially benefit students enrolled in self-financed schools and their parents by saving them the time and effort involved in visiting retailers or distributors. The initiative is also expected to reduce overcrowding, long queues, and delays at bookstores, particularly during the start of the academic year.
