Bhubaneswar: Amazon India on Thursday announced the launch of 52 last-mile delivery stations spread across cities like Balangir, Cuttack, Jharsuguda and Puri. The move comes even as its expanding operations network in Odisha has significantly improved delivery speed, strengthened local seller participation and generated employment following the launch of its first fulfilment centre in the state capital last year. The Bhubaneswar fulfilment centre, located at Giringaput, has a storage capacity of 0.25 million cubic feet and forms the backbone of Amazon’s local infrastructure in Odisha. The company, in a statement, said the expanded setup has enabled same-day or next-day deliveries to become 5 times faster by placing inventory closer to customers.Since the launch of the fulfilment centre, Amazon has onboarded over 1,000 new local sellers from across Odisha, helping small and medium businesses. The facility currently stores lakhs of products across categories, allowing quicker order processing and dispatch.Customer adoption has been steadily rising in districts including Angul, Balangir, Cuttack, Ganjam, Jharsuguda, Mayurbhanj and Rourkela, with strong demand seen in mobile phones, consumer electronics, beauty and grocery.Karan Chugh, director of operations at Amazon India, said the company’s focus remains on getting closer to sellers and customers. “Last year, we invested over Rs 2,000 crore to build and operate India’s fastest, safest and most reliable operations network. With our expanded network in Odisha, we are bringing wider things closer to customers,” Chugh said. The Odisha expansion is part of Amazon’s long-term investment story in India. Since 2010, the company has invested nearly $40 billion in the country. In Odisha, the growing operations network is already creating thousands of employment opportunities across fulfilment, sorting and delivery roles.
