Lucknow: The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court has granted relief to teachers of the Uttar Pradesh Basic Education Council by extending the deadline for submitting applications for inter-district transfers by two weeks for those affected by a subsequent government clarification.
Justice Pankaj Bhatia passed the order while disposing of a petition filed by Jyoti Kushwaha and four other teachers.
The court directed the state government to widely publicise the order through the department’s website and newspapers so that all eligible teachers get an opportunity to submit fresh applications.
The petitioners argued that a government order issued on June 4, 2026, permitted inter-district transfers where both husband and wife were teachers in Basic Education Council schools.
However, after the application process had concluded and the list of applicants had been prepared, a clarification issued on June 22 altered the implementation of the policy, depriving several eligible teachers of the opportunity to apply.
During the hearing, the state government informed the court that it had no objection to granting another opportunity to teachers affected by the June 22 clarification.
Accepting the submission, the court extended the application deadline by two weeks for all similarly placed teachers and directed the authorities to consider and decide their applications in accordance with law. PTI
