“We have introduced a common civil code (UCC) in several states and I’m confident that before 2029, the 21 BJP-NDA ruled states will introduce UCC,” Shah said while announcing plans for a 30-day ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan‘. This begins from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday to mark the completion of 25 years of Modi’s tenure in public service — from the time he was Gujarat CM to being the prime minister, he said. He said that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, the country was free of the three festering wounds of corruption, casteism and dynastic politics. “Under Modiji’s leadership, the country has seen politics of performance. The country has progressed and we have seen for the first time the foreign policy having a spine. For the first time, whether it be defence or foreign policy, we are going by what is in India’s interests,” Shah said. Under Modi’s leadership, the country has become free from policy paralysis and alliance compulsions that crippled earlier governments. He spoke on the issue of the government’s ‘zero tolerance’ to terrorism.
On the recent GenZ protests, Shah said the BJP believed in democracy and dialogue. “We are in a democracy. People have a certain view on several issues and bringing it out is also necessary. This is a BJP run government, we will not rule by imposing emergency. That is the Congress culture. We have our own culture (which is why), we have discussions and dialogues.”
On whether the NRC in Manipur would have the 1951 baseline and the deadline for NRC nationally, Shah said, “We are talking to our allies and to political parties in Manipur on both the issues.”
On the Indian and Chinese views on the LAC, he said, “The people of the country have faith in us. Some things are sensitive which cannot be publicly said as it is not in the country’s interest or not in the interest of our armed forces.”
