Ranchi: Ajsu-P chief Sudesh Mahto on Friday urged Union home minister Amit Shah to accord ST status to the Kurmi community and also order an investigation by CBI and Enforcement Directorate into Jharkhand Public Service Commission and Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission’s alleged examination irregularities.In a memorandum submitted to Shah in New Delhi, Mahto also sought a CBI inquiry into the alleged irregularities in District Mineral Foundation Trust fund utilisation.He said that transparency and credibility in competitive exams were linked to the future of youths, adding that a high-level and impartial investigation should be conducted.Mahto drew the attention of Shah towards the long-pending demand for ST status by Kurmis. He said that ST status would give new direction to cultural, social and political progress of the community.Mahto also demanded that various local languages, including Kudmali, Kurukh and Mundari, should be included in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution. He pointed out that language was an important part of any society.He further said that mineral-bearing land cess should be imposed in Jharkhand and its fund be used only for improving the conditions of families affected by mining.
