Srinagar, Oct 14: Bollywood actor Ajay Devgn has returned to Kargil in Ladakh after a gap of 23 years to shoot his upcoming film Chauhaan, bringing him back to the mountainous region where he earlier filmed portions of the 2003 war drama LOC: Kargil.
Devgn has begun filming the action drama in Kargil, with reports indicating that several important sequences will be shot in the region.
A member of the production team overseeing the shoot told Rising Kashmir that the actor had arrived in Kargil and filming had begun.
“The actor will shoot at different locations across Kargil, and the schedule is expected to conclude on October 26,” he said.
The film is directed by Neeraj Yadav and produced by Jyoti Deshpande, Aanand L Rai and Himanshu Sharma under Jio Studios and Colour Yellow Productions. The film is scheduled for theatrical release on October 1, 2027.
The project was announced on June 25, 2026, the birth anniversary of Devgn’s late father, action director Veeru Devgan. Its promotional video introduced the actor in an intense action avatar and ended with the dialogue, “Pathaanon se kehna, Chauhaan aa raha hai” (Tell the Pathaans, Chauhaan is coming).
Rising Kashmir has learnt that the actor is enjoying Kargil’s cold weather, much like he did during an earlier shoot in the region in 2003.
Devgn’s association with Jammu and Kashmir extends beyond his two visits to Ladakh for LOC: Kargil and Chauhaan.
In 1999, he starred in Dil Kya Kare, directed by Prakash Jha and produced by his father, Veeru Devgan, alongside Veena Devgan and Kumaar Mangat. The film featured Kajol, Mahima Chaudhry and Chandrachur Singh and explored themes of love, family and difficult personal choices.
In 2024, Devgn returned to Kashmir for Rohit Shetty’s Singham Again, the fifth instalment in the filmmaker’s popular cop universe.
The film’s shooting schedule included sequences filmed in Srinagar’s downtown, Lal Chowk and Sonamarg in May 2024, with Devgn appearing alongside Jackie Shroff. The shoot drew attention from residents as the production team filmed action sequences under tight security.
