Aizawl: Polling for the 19-ward Aizawl Municipal Corporation will be held on April 21 and votes will be counted on April 27, Mizoram state election commissioner H Lalthlangliana said on Wednesday while announcing the civic poll schedule.Lalthlangliana said the model code of conduct came into force on Wednesday with the announcement of the election schedule. Filing of nominations also began the same day.He stated that the last date for filing nominations is 3pm on March 25. Scrutiny of nomination papers will be taken up on March 27, while the last date for withdrawal of nominations is 3pm on March 30.Polling will be held from 7am to 5pm on April 21. “If re-poll is necessary, it will he held on April 23.” Counting of votes will be conducted on April 27 and the election process will be completed on April 30.Of the 19 wards, six are reserved for women candidates, the SEC said. He added that the Aizawl district deputy commissioner has been appointed as the district municipal election officer (DMEO), with four municipal returning officers to oversee the polls.He said 40 Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) manufactured by Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), requisitioned from the Election Commission of India (ECI), will be used in the civic polls.An electorate of 2,37,846 — including 1,28,470 female voters and 1,09,376 male voters — is listed for the AMC election. There will be 257 polling stations for the civic polls, and auxiliary polling stations can be arranged if required.
