Mysuru: The All India Institute of Speech and Hearing (AIISH), in association with the Akshaya Patra Foundation, has launched a breakfast programme for speech- and hearing-impaired children visiting the institute for treatment.The initiative was inaugurated by zilla panchayat CEO Yukesh Kumar at Kutira on the Panchavati campus in Mysuru.Speaking on the occasion, Iskcon’s Krishna Swami said the Akshaya Patra Foundation, which provides free midday meals to over 20,000 govt schoolchildren in partnership with the Union and state govts, is expanding its services to support visually impaired children and persons with special needs.He said the foundation remains committed to providing nutritional and humanitarian support to underprivileged sections of society and emphasised the need to ensure that children undergoing medical treatment have access to nutritious food.AIISH director Pushpavathi said the need for a breakfast programme was identified after observing the nutritional requirements of children and their parents, who often travel long distances and spend several hours at the institute for treatment. She added that ZP CEO Yukesh Kumar took the initiative to coordinate with the Akshaya Patra Foundation to facilitate the provision of fresh morning meals for the children.
