Dumka: AIIMS Deoghar trained 28 nursing personnel from across Jharkhand in emergency life-saving techniques under the National Emergency Life Support (NELS) Provider Course for Nurses.The two-day programme, held on Sept 25 and 26 at its NELS Skill Centre, was organised with the disaster management cell of Union ministry of health and family welfare. It prepared nurses to act as first responders and deliver immediate care during medical emergencies.Participants received hands-on training in cardiopulmonary resuscitation, airway management, bag-mask ventilation, defibrillator use and emergency response through simulated scenarios. They were divided into small groups and rotated through skill stations, practising on adult and infant manikins. High-fidelity simulation manikins recreated emergencies, while faculty members provided feedback.Inaugurating the programme, AIIMS Deoghar executive director and CEO Prof (Dr) Nitin Gangane said nurses are often the first healthcare professionals to respond when a patient deteriorates.“Timely recognition of an emergency and appropriate intervention can make the difference between life and death. Nurses have a crucial role in the first few minutes of an emergency, and such structured training helps them respond with greater confidence, speed and precision,” Gangane said.He thanked state health authorities and civil surgeons for nominating personnel and ensuring their release.Prof (Dr) Sanjay Kumar said the training was the first such NELS course in Jharkhand in the presence of a central observer. “The programme is an important step towards strengthening emergency and trauma care services in the state. Developing a trained pool of nurses will help improve the initial response to critical patients at healthcare facilities,” he said.
