Pune: The Army Institute of Cardiothoracic Sciences (AICTS) observed World TB Day on Tuesday with a programme designed to raise awareness and strengthen tuberculosis control efforts across the country.The event was chaired by Maj Gen S Radhakrishnan, Commandant, AICTS. AICTS serves as a critical referral hub for institutional management of tuberculosis among serving personnel, specialising in complex cases of drug-resistant TB.The proceedings commenced with an opening address by Col Manu Chopra, head of the department of respiratory medicine, followed by expert sessions on latent tuberculosis, emphasising early detection and advanced management protocols. A unique highlight of the event was a patient-led play, which used lived experiences to spread awareness about the disease and its treatment.In keeping with its annual tradition, the institute hosted the Col SC Tiwari Memorial Online National TB Quiz. The competition saw participation from over 500 medical students across the country. Dr. Swarna Ramteke updated the attendees on the latest national TB guidelines and diagnostic advancements.
