Bengaluru: AICC on Wednesday announced senior Congress leader BK Hariprasad as the new president of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC).
The 71-year-old Congress leader will take over from chief minister DK Shivakumar.
Minister Satish Jarkiholi had been a strong contender for the post, but he lost out after being inducted into the Cabinet.
Former chief minister Siddaramaiah is said to have pushed Hariprasad’s name.
The party also named Hariprasad besides Tippanna Kamaknoor, PV Mohan and Shivanna Malavalli as its candidates for the biennial elections to the Legislative Council.
