TIMES NEWS NETWORKMangaluru: AICC observer and Kozhikode North MLA K Jayanth began consultations and an exercise to choose the next president for Dakshina Kannada District Congress Committee (DCC) as part of the Sanghatan Srijan Abhiyaan on Tuesday.Jayanth told reporters that the nationwide organisational initiative has been launched by the Indian National Congress to strengthen the party from the grassroots, and prepare it to meet the aspirations of the people in theyears ahead.“The team will assess the party’s strengths and challenges, and chart a roadmap for building a stronger Congress party in the district. For the next two weeks, we will hold extensive consultations with senior party leaders, elected representatives, former office bearers, and leaders of frontal organisations, block Congress presidents, block-level functionaries, grassroots workers and civil society members. Every opinion given by anyone who comes to meet us, and all suggestions and assessments shared during this consultation, will be carefully documented and submitted to the AICC leadership,” Jayanth said.However, he clarified that a final decision regarding the appointment of the DCC presidents rests with the Congress high command, which will take a considered decision after evaluating all relevant factors, including the recommendations emerging from the consultations. He said the AICC wants to ensure that the Congress wins all the eight assembly constituencies in Dakshina Kannada and the Lok Sabha seat in the upcoming elections.On the occasion, Jayanth handed over the nomination forms, which all aspiring party leaders may fill and submit to the AICC, to DCC President Harish Kumar.“Earlier, we used to decide the DCC president through senior leaders’ consultation. Now, anybody can collect the form from the DCC president and hand it over to us to be considered as DCC president. Anyone who believes in Congress ideology can give their details to us. We will interview them, and discuss with each and every one. We will give input to the district and state leadership on people who can be utilised in the future,” saidJayanth.
