Ahmedabad: Around 500 workers at an industrial unit in the Memco area went on strike on Wednesday, raising demands over salary hikes and overtime payments. The workers staged a protest and halted operations, also listing eight demands related to wages and working conditions.Sources said employees had earlier raised concerns about pay revision and overtime compensation, but no decision had been taken. The situation eased after management held discussions and assured workers of a proper review. A spokesperson said the issue stemmed from changes in salary structure after implementation of new labour codes. Following clarification by the HR department, workers called off the strike and resumed duties. This sudden dip in productivity caught the company off guard, proving that even a single day of protest can throw a wrench into tight manufacturing schedules. Management now faces the delicate task of following through on their promises, as the workers have made it clear they expect more than just verbal assurances when it comes to their take-home pay and late-night shifts.
