Ahmedabad: A 35-year-old man from Odhav lost Rs 11.8 lakh after downloading a fake RTO e-challan application sent through WhatsApp. A complaint of cyberfraud has been filed with city cybercrime police.The complainant received a message from an unknown number in Jan while travelling to his native village in Rajasthan. The message contained an APK file, “RTO-EChallan”. He downloaded it and entered his name, mobile number and date of birth.Soon after, his phone stopped working properly and received Aadhaar-related OTPs, but he ignored the alerts at the time.The next day, he received alert messages from the bank revealing unauthorised transactions from his account. On visiting the bank, he learned that fraudsters had transferred Rs 11 lakh from his FD account and Rs 87,000 from his savings account to unknown accounts.
