Ahmedabad: The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has initiated a technical review of the newly inaugurated Makarba Railway Overbridge following complaints of traffic congestion and bottlenecks soon after it was opened to the public. AMC has undertaken full-width road widening on the stretch connecting Corporate Crossroads and SG Highway.Officials said the widening work is expected to be completed shortly and is likely to improve traffic flow along the corridor. In addition, AMC has directed project design consultant DELF Consulting Engineers (India) Pvt Ltd to conduct a detailed technical study.The agency has been asked to examine the junction geometry, compare original and current traffic patterns, assess immediate corrective measures and recommend permanent solutions to eliminate the bottleneck.The overbridge, constructed under the ‘Phatak Mukt Bharat Abhiyan’, witnessed heavy traffic snarls shortly after its inauguration. In response to public complaints, the civic body introduced a specialised capsule design at the junction to streamline vehicular movement and reduce congestion.Deputy municipal commissioner Dinesh Gurav said the road-widening work will be completed soon.
