Ahmedabad: City police have declared the entire route of the 149th Jagannath rath yatra as a no-parking zone for two days to ensure smooth movement of the procession and traffic. Police commissioner Anupam Singh Gahlaut issued the notification on Wednesday under the Gujarat Police Act and the Gujarat Motor Vehicles Rules. The restrictions will remain in force from 12am on July 15 until the conclusion of the rath yatra on July 16.The order applies to the route from the Jagannathji Temple in Jamalpur through Jamalpur Chakla, Khamasa, Astodia, Raipur, Khadia, Panchkuva, Kalupur, Saraspur, Prem Darwaza, Delhi Chakla, Shahpur, Gheekanta, Manek Chowk, Danapith and back to the temple. The BRTS corridor along the route has also been included in the notification.Police said vehicles parked on the prohibited stretches may be removed, and action will be taken against violators under the BNS and the Gujarat Police Act. The notification authorises police officers from the rank of joint commissioner to constables to initiate legal action against those violating the order.
