Ahmedabad: Doctors at AMC-run SVP Hospital have successfully managed a rare, life-threatening placenta percreta case without surgery, avoiding hysterectomy and preserving the patient’s fertility. The 33-year-old woman was referred after a complicated delivery elsewhere involving intrauterine fetal demise and a retained placenta.A failed manual removal attempt prompted further evaluation at SVP Hospital, where MRI confirmed Placenta Percreta, a severe Placenta Accreta Spectrum condition in which placental tissue penetrates the uterine muscle to the outer layer.Considering surgical risks, the obstetrics and gynaecology team chose conservative (non-surgical) management. The patient was monitored in hospital and at home for 90 days. The placental mass later passed naturally without bleeding, infection or complications.
