Ahmedabad: Alert passers-by helped avert a tragedy on the CTM-Ramol double-decker overbridge on the Narol-Naroda highway after a man climbed the bridge’s iron safety railing and stood on the ledge. After a tense few minutes of persuasion by locals and commuters, the man climbed back to safety.The incident took place on the busy overbridge on Saturday afternoon.Instead of rushing towards him, several passersby began speaking to him from a distance and tried to keep him engaged in a conversation. As more people gathered, they continued urging him to return to the bridge and assured him that help was available.According to eyewitnesses, the rescue effort lasted around three minutes. During this period, locals maintained a calm approach and avoided any sudden movements that could have alarmed the man.Videos recorded by onlookers show the man standing on the ledge of the bridge with people appealing to him to step back. Their efforts eventually succeeded, and he climbed down the railing and returned to the bridge. No injuries were reported.The video of the rescue has gone viral, drawing attention to the role played by ordinary citizens in preventing a possible tragedy. Several users praised the presence of mind shown by those who stopped to help and got the man back to safety.
