Ahmedabad: A video shared on social media on Sunday evening alleging the presence of an insect in a sandwich served at an ITC hotel in Vastrapur led to action by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC). “A citizen lodged a complaint stating that a small flying insect was found in a sandwich served at the ITC hotel,” said deputy health officer Tejas Shah.Following the complaint, AMC’s health department carried out an inspection of the premises. “During the inspection, it was found that the hotel possessed a valid and appropriate FSSAI licence,” Shah informed press persons, adding that “the pest control certificate was valid and updated within the stipulated time.” However, Shah said the food business operator was served a notice. “A fine of Rs 15,000 has been imposed on the food business operator as per procedure,” he said. Shah said the inspection team also examined kitchen operations. “The waste management system in the kitchen was being properly maintained, and general hygiene and compliance with other mandatory norms were found to be satisfactory,” Shah said.
