Ahmedabad: Ahead of the 149th Jagannath Rath Yatra on July 16, Ahmedabad mayor Hitesh Barot on Thursday conducted a joint inspection of the entire 14km route to review civic amenities, security measures and inter-departmental preparedness.Officials inspected road conditions, cleanliness, drainage, streetlights, footpaths, and public amenities along the route. The mayor directed departments to complete all pending work on time. “Instructions have been issued to all departments to ensure that the chariots, devotees and motorists face no difficulty,” he said.He added that dilapidated buildings along the route had been served notices to remove unsafe portions. At vulnerable spots, green nets and tin sheets have been installed as a safety measure. Large trees along the route have also been inspected and trimmed wherever required to prevent obstruction during the procession.On the day of the rath yatra, civic officials will be deployed near dilapidated buildings in addition to police personnel, the mayor said.According to Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation, 2,800 metres of road resurfacing and 4,584 sq m of patchwork have been completed on the route. The civic body has also built 5,200 running metres of new footpaths and repaired 1,495 running metres. Manholes and catchpits of drainage and stormwater lines have been cleaned, while thermoplastic and colour painting work on the route has been completed.
