Ahmedabad: Ahmedabad Crime Branch on Monday arrested a 35-year-old man from Juhapura for allegedly possessing a country-made pistol, five live cartridges and five swords near the Sabarmati Riverfront.The accused, identified as Rajik Qureshi, was apprehended around 8pm on the riverfront road connecting Kashi Vishwanath temple and Dhobighat after cops acted on a tip-off. He was riding a scooter, said police.During a search, officers allegedly recovered a country-made pistol, and five live cartridges concealed in his waistband. Five swords were also allegedly found in the footwell of the scooter.According to police, Qureshi failed to produce any licence or permit for possessing firearms and ammunition. The seized pistol was valued at Rs 5,000, the cartridges at Rs 500, the swords at Rs 500 and the scooter at Rs 70,000, taking the total value of the seized property to Rs 76,000.During interrogation, Qureshi allegedly told investigators that he had purchased the country-made pistol and cartridges about 10 months ago from Mohammad Ayub Shaikh, a resident of Fatehwadi in Juhapura.Police registered an offence under the Arms Act against Qureshi and Shaikh.
