Ahmedabad: Civil Hospital Ahmedabad has issued a circular directing resident doctors in all clinical departments to ensure regular and timely attendance during outpatient department (OPD) hours. The move follows repeated complaints and representations received by the office of the medical superintendent regarding the alleged absence of resident doctors during scheduled OPD timings.According to the circular issued by the medical superintendent, the issue has been taken seriously as the non-availability of resident doctors during OPD hours can adversely affect patient care and disrupt the smooth functioning of hospital services. Heads of all clinical departments have consequently been asked to closely monitor the attendance of resident doctors. The directive applies to junior residents as well as senior residents. Department heads have been instructed to ensure that all resident doctors report on time and remain present in their designated OPD rooms or departments throughout the prescribed OPD hours. The administration has further directed clinical departments to maintain strict supervision and ensure that no resident doctor remains away from duty during OPD hours without prior authorisation. Any resident doctor found reporting late or remaining absent without permission will be liable for disciplinary action under the applicable rules. The circular comes amid recurring concerns over the attendance and availability of resident doctors at govt hospitals.
