Ahmedabad: A 55-year-old school worker has been arrested after a preschool student at a private school in South Bopal allegedly reported being sexually assaulted on the campus.Police registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act.The alleged assault occurred on June 19. “The child had recently joined the school’s preschool section. His parents noticed that he was sad and unusually withdrawn. They spoke to him and learnt about the sexual assault ,” Bopal inspector N S Chauhan said. The parents first approached the school management before approaching the police.School authorities said the alleged incident took place inside a washroom on the campus. They said the accused was suspended immediately after the parents brought the matter to their notice and an internal inquiry was initiated.The school trustee said the accused had been employed at the institution for several years and belonged to the third generation of a family that had long worked at the school. “He lives on the school campus with his family. We have never received any complaint against him in the past,” Raval said.District primary education officer (city) J K Patel said the school had informed his office about the incident and the suspension of the employee. Education department officials will conduct an inquiry and examine CCTV footage on Monday.
