Ahmedabad: A 16-year-old boy was killed after an AMTS bus knocked him down inside the BRTS corridor near CTM on Friday morning, raising fresh concerns over access control on dedicated bus lanes. The accident occurred around 9.45am between the CTM Expressway stretch and Jashodanagar crossroads.The victim, Arun Vanzara, a resident of Amraiwadi, had recently appeared for his Class 10 board examinations. A police complaint was filed by his father, Padam Vanzara, who runs a garment shop in Vatva. The complaint states that the boy left home on a scooter to open the shop despite being told to stay back. Soon after he left, the family received a call from an unidentified person informing them about the accident.Police said the teenager was riding towards Jashodanagar when he entered the BRTS corridor from the expressway side. At the same time, an AMTS bus coming from the opposite direction hit the scooter head-on. The impact was severe, and the boy was dragged for several feet, suffering critical injuries to the head, face and leg. Eyewitnesses said the collision left him bleeding heavily on the track.He was shifted to LG Hospital in an 108 ambulance, but doctors declared him dead on arrival. The front portion of the bus was extensively damaged, while the scooter was badly mangled.The father alleged that the bus driver was speeding and driving negligently, endangering lives. A case was registered against the driver, and the vehicle was taken into custody for further investigation.Officials said the RFID gate at the stretch was closed at the time of the accident, and they are probing how the two-wheeler managed to enter the restricted BRTS lane. I-Division traffic police registered a case and began an investigation.
