Madhubani: Ahead of Independence Day, the district administration has launched an initiative to give Class XI and XII students an opportunity to experience the working of the govt by spending a day along with senior administrative and police officers.The initiative, titled ‘officer for a day’, has been launched as part of this year’s Independence Day theme, “Azadi ka samman, bhawishya ke liye prerana”.Under the programme, meritorious students from govt and private schools and colleges in the district will be selected to work as “shadow officers” with the district magistrate (DM), superintendent of police (SP), sub-divisional magistrates (SDMs), sub-divisional police officers (SDPOs) and other officials.The selected students will get an opportunity to observe the functioning of the administration, implementation of welfare schemes, handling of public grievances, decision-making, official meetings and field inspections.According to the district administration, the initiative aims to promote leadership, a sense of responsibility, social sensitivity, problem-solving skills and public service among young people. It is also intended to familiarise students with the functioning of govt and improve interaction between the administration and the community.Applications are being invited through online form prepared by the district education department and circulated among educational institutions. Applicants will be assessed on analytical ability, leadership skills, social sensitivity and problem-solving skills. An expert committee will evaluate the applications and select the participants.The last date for submitting applications is Aug 10, while the list of selected students will be released on Aug 13. The selected students will spend the day with the officers concerned on Aug 14 as shadow officers.The district administration has appealed to eligible students to apply within the stipulated deadline.
