Kanpur: District magistrate Mahendra Singh Tanwar, municipal commissioner and chief development officer conducted a late-night inspection of sanitation and CM GRID works, directing officials to complete sanitation arrangements and as many road improvement projects as possible before Diwali.Accompanied by Municipal Corporation and district administration teams, they reviewed waste disposal and road construction across the city.At Portable Compactor Transfer Station near Tel Mill in Jajmau, staff were present along with the municipal health officer and zonal sanitation officer.Officials said the station receives about 13 metric tonnes of waste daily, with several vehicles making two trips each for transportation. Waste is collected using handcarts and Tata Ace vehicles.Tanwar found sanitation and waste conditions satisfactory, and directed the employees to maintain the system effectively.He later inspected CM GRID works at KDA Chauraha in Lal Bangla, reviewing progress, road conditions, construction arrangements and provisions for traffic and the public.Tanwar said CM GRID projects were being reviewed regularly. Phase 1 covers about 16 km, while Phase 2 covers about 13 km. He directed officials and executing agencies to maintain the required pace and complete work within stipulated timelines.Officials were directed to prevent unnecessary public inconvenience and ensure safety and traffic management at worksites.At a garbage-vulnerable point in Jajmau, Tanwar directed the zonal sanitation officer to ensure regular waste collection from the site and nearby areas and transport it to the transfer station.He also ordered a public awareness campaign encouraging residents to hand over waste through the prescribed system and action to eliminate the garbage-vulnerable point.Tanwar directed officials to strengthen sanitation ahead of festivals and complete waste management and road improvement works on priority within set timelines.
