Hisar: An agriculture department inspector in Hisar has fallen victim to a cyber fraud worth Rs 40 lakh after being lured into a fake online trading scheme through social media.The police have registered a case against unknown accused and initiated an investigation.Based on a complaint by the victim, a case has been registered at Hisar Cyber police station under relevant sections of law.According to the complainant, on Feb 20, he received a friend request on Facebook from an account named “Rekha Yadav”, which he accepted. The two later began chatting on WhatsApp, where discussions about online trading investments started.On Feb 26, the woman shared a link to a website named “GlobalPrimes”, where the inspector created an account by entering his email, Aadhaar details, and other personal information. He was subsequently added to a Telegram channel, where his account was verified.Initially, he was asked to invest Rs 50,000. After transferring the amount, he received Rs 53,890 (investment plus profit) the same day, which built his trust in the scheme. Encouraged by this, on March 6, he transferred Rs 20 lakh from his mother’s bank account after being promised higher returns.On March 9, he was again asked to invest Rs 20 lakh. He transferred Rs 10 lakh initially, followed by another Rs 5 lakh in two instalments. In total, he ended up transferring around Rs 40 lakh.When the inspector later tried to withdraw the money, he was told that he completed only nine trades, whereas a minimum of 20 trades was required to process withdrawals. This raised suspicion, and after consulting a friend, he realised he had been duped.The police have urged citizens to remain cautious and avoid investing through unknown links or individuals on social media and messaging platforms.
