Kanpur: In a joint operation, Kotwali police, along with the Agra STF unit, arrested a gangster-Surendra- carrying a reward of Rs 50,000 on his head from COD Ground, Thana Sadar in Agra.DCP east Satyajit Gupta said on Friday that Surendra, a resident of Ashraf Garhi, Jind, Haryana, was involved in thefts and robberies on trains and had eight cases lodged against him. He was sent to jail in 2019 by GRP under the Gangsters Act. In 2020, he managed to get bail through fake sureties in the Gangster Court and was absconding since then. The police brought Surendra to Kanpur on Friday and sent him to jail after producing him before the court in afternoon.Gupta said the Kanpur Police had exposed a syndicate that got criminals lodged in jail released on bail using fake sureties and forged documents. Two people-Natthu and Santosh, residents of Shivdin Purwa, Bithoor- were arrested and sent to jail for securing bail for prisoners on their surety using forged documents in exchange of money.Named FIRs were registered against 73 people involved in the syndicate, including Surendra, who was also released on bail through fraudulent means. The court issued a non-bailable warrant against Surendra and a reward of Rs 50,000 was announced on him, said police.
