Member of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Aga Syed Muntazir Mehdi, on Wednesday called for the immediate release of detained youths and withdrawal of FIRs registered against mourners.
The MLA was speaking during a meeting convened by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to review the overall situation in the Union Territory following the reported martyrdom of Imam Khamenei.
During the meeting, Aga Muntazir who also represented the J&K Anjuman-e-Sharie Shian — presented a detailed report on the congregational programmes being organised across Jammu and Kashmir.
He emphasized that the mourning processions and gatherings were religious in nature and urged the administration to adopt a humanitarian approach. Stressing the need to maintain communal harmony and public trust, the MLA demanded:
• Immediate release of detained youths
• Withdrawal of charges and FIRs filed against mourners
Aga Muntazir stated that such measures would help ease tensions and ensure peaceful observance of religious programmes across the region.(KNS)
