Srinagar, Sep 21 : Budgam MLA Aga Muntazir on Monday accused the National Conference and the BJP of disrupting the proceedings of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly to prevent issues concerning reservation and other sections from being discussed in the House.
Talking to Kashmir News Service (KNS) outside the Assembly after the first day of the autumn session was adjourned, Muntazir said issues affecting people across Jammu and Kashmir should have been taken up during the session, including the reservation issue, demands of intern doctors and NHM employees and other groups protesting over their concerns.
“On the very first day, unfortunately, the National Conference and the BJP have made it clear that the issues of Jammu and Kashmir and the issues of the people will not be allowed to come into the House,” he said.
Muntazir said an adjournment motion had been moved in the morning seeking a discussion on the reservation issue as the main business of the Assembly.
He alleged that instead of allowing a discussion on the matter, the proceedings were disrupted, resulting in the loss of the day’s business.
“We brought the Adjournment Motion in the morning so that this is the only business that should be discussed in the Assembly,” he said.
The Budgam MLA also referred to protests over reservation and other issues outside the Assembly, saying the concerns raised by people should be reflected in the proceedings of the House.
He alleged that the reservation issue had affected a large section of the population and said the concerns being raised on the matter could not be kept outside the Assembly.
Muntazir further alleged that the two parties had decided to disrupt the House so that the issues being raised in Kashmir did not find expression during the Assembly session.
He said the first day’s proceedings had made it clear that the reservation issue would face opposition inside the House.
“Both the parties, the BJP and the National Conference, have made it clear that the House should be disrupted so that the sensitive issues of reservation should not be raised in the Assembly,” he said.
The MLA also referred to issues concerning intern doctors, NHM employees and other groups, saying these matters were among those being raised by people on the streets.
He alleged that the disruption of the House had prevented these issues from being taken up for discussion on the opening day of the session.
Muntazir said the Assembly should provide a platform for discussing issues affecting the people and that the concerns being raised outside the House should be brought before legislators for debate.(KNS)
