Noida: After residents spent a sleepless night due to outages on Wednesday, thundershowers led to fresh power cuts as well as preventive shutdowns across several sectors in Noida and Ghaziabad. Cables snapped and several poles fell during the afternoon showers on Thursday. Several trees and hoardings fell across Noida, Dadri and Jewar, forcing the discom officials to take action to avert accidents.In Noida, power interruptions began after 9pm on Wednesday and continued well into the early hours on Thursday. A technical snag at a 33 kV feeder in Sector 115 substation led to outages in sectors 122, 115, 73 and 75.A fault in the 33 kV line in Abhay Khand plunged parts of Indirapuram, Vaishali and Vasundhara into darkness.Sector 55 RWA president Satnarayan Goyal said a pole broke and fell on a house, smashing one of its windows. In Sector 35, another pole of a high-tension line split in the middle. “Many trees were uprooted between sectors 71 and 121 in the thunderstorm,” said a resident of Greater Noida West, Devender Singh.RWA president of Sector 19 RC Gupta said, “Branches have fallen on electric wires. Discom has switched off our power supply in the entire sector. It cannot be started till all the trees are removed and the electric wires are set right. It may take a few hours. The Authority’s horticulture team was in Dadri and it is expected to take a couple of hours for them to reach our sector. It looks like power will be restored only late at night.”An executive engineer of the Noida power department said, “Once the weather conditions improve, linesmen will check all 11kV line feeders and clear the line, after which supply will be restored. This can take some time and is necessary for residents’ safety.”In Ghaziabad, power department officials said similar measures have been taken after the breakdown of the 33 kV line in a couple of places.Earlier on Wednesday, sectors like 20, 45, 49, 73, 75, 100 and 122 in Noida faced outages lasting two to three hours. “The night temperature was quite high and I felt suffocated with no power at home. I have not had a good night’s sleep in over a week. How long will this continue?” questioned Umesh Sharma from Sector 122.Similar complaints were made by Amar Saini from Pandit Colony, Sector 73, and Ashwani Kumar from Sector 75, who complained there was no power till 2.56 am on Thursday.Shivam Tripathi, the executive engineer of the Noida power department, informed that due to a breakdown in feeder number 4 from Sector 115 substation, supply was affected in the area, including Sector 122. “The circuit jumper on the 33 kV feeder was found burnt. We had shut down the connection to replace it,” said Tripathi.In Ghaziabad, residents of Gyan Khand and surrounding areas experienced severe power outages late into the night and throughout the morning. Hemant Kumar Behera from Gyan Khand said power disruption began around 5.19pm on June 3, triggering a wave of complaints from residents across the community.Sanjeev Sharma from the Ghaziabad power department confirmed that a fault in the 33 kV line had caused the outage, assuring supply restoration soon.
