Varanasi: The district court compounds in Azamgarh and Varanasi were searched by dog and bomb disposal squads in the presence of police on Monday. Following the Feb 13 evacuation of the court after a threat mail was received by the district Judge, Varanasi, an FIR was lodged with Cantt police. Azamgarh police also lodged an FIR on Monday. The cops in Varanasi remained in action with the opening of the district court, as bomb disposal and dog squads entered the campus and searched the entire compound. Police commissioner Mohit Agrawal said that an FIR was lodged with Cantt police. After that, the cybercrime cell was engaged to begin the investigation, while the ATS was also in action, he said. In the Azamgarh court, a mega search drive was also launched. Azamgarh SP, Anil Kumar said that this checking drive was carried out after a threat mail was received on the mail ID of the district judge. As per the SOP in place for court security, security arrangements were maintained and checking drives were carried out randomly. However, on Monday, the drive was carried out in view of the same threat mail, he said, mentioning that nothing objectionable was found during the drive, but an FIR was lodged in this connection.The Varanasi threat mail was sent from sunniya_dasan@outlook.com and mentioned the names of some Supreme Court advocates, claiming that on their advice, DMK in Tamil Nadu tried to crush the media in 2021. The mail also made allegations of luring journalists and sexually exploiting minor girl inmates of orphanages. The mail sender also mentioned the names of many of those inmates.
