Commuters face a tough ride as rain lashes the city on Thursday

Surat: Parts of south Gujarat received light to moderate rainfall on Thursday after a nearly weeklong lull that followed the torrential downpours which had flooded Surat and triggered floods in several parts of the region.Drizzles began in the early hours and continued intermittently through the day, bringing respite from the intense rain while causing minor disruptions in a few areas.In Surat district, Kamrej recorded the highest rainfall at 46mm, followed by Mangrol and Bardoli with 38mm each. Areth received 24 mm, while Palsana recorded 11 mm. A total of 94 talukas recorded rainfall in 16 hours ending 8pm Thursday.The morning showers led to waterlogging on the service road along National Highway 48 in Kamrej, briefly affecting traffic. Officials said the water receded later in the day as the rainfall eased and the drainage system cleared the accumulated water.In Tapi district, Vyara and Ukai received 11 mm of rain each, while Songadh recorded 9 mm. The rainfall remained light to moderate across most talukas, with no reports of major damage.Bharuch district also witnessed scattered showers, with Netrang receiving 29mm and Valia 10mm. Rainfall distribution remained uneven across the region, with some places experiencing steady showers while others received only brief drizzles.The forested Dang district and hill station Saputara witnessed light showers, adding to the scenic beauty and drawing tourists to the mist-covered landscape.Meanwhile, the sea along the south Gujarat coast continued to remain rough due to strong winds and rainfall. Authorities have advised people to stay away from beaches during high tide. At Tithal beach in Valsad, high waves damaged a section of the embankment despite recent repairs.
