PUNE: Milk prices in Maharashtra have been hiked by Rs 2 per litre for both cow and buffalo milk on Sunday. The revised rates will come into effect from August 11, following a decision by the Milk Producers and Processors Welfare Association.Meanwhile, milk prices have also risen across Andhra Pradesh, adding to household budget pressures as cooperative dairies and private dairy companies revised their rates in Vijayawada.The latest round of price increases has triggered concern among consumers and protests by political parties and public organisations.Vijaya Dairy, operated by the Krishna District Milk Producers’ Cooperative Union, has announced a Rs 2-per-litre increase from August 10. With the latest revision, the price of one litre of full-cream milk will rise from Rs 78 to Rs 80.The price of milk has been increased twice in the past four months by several dairy companies, including Vijaya Dairy and private players.The repeated increases have raised concerns among consumers, particularly families who depend on milk as a daily essential commodity. Consumer organisations and Left parties have questioned the frequent revisions and demanded measures to keep milk prices affordable.The CPM staged a protest and demonstration outside the Vijaya Dairy sales point at Lenin Centre in Vijayawada on Saturday, opposing the latest increase.CPM workers raised slogans against the price hike and demanded that the revised rates be withdrawn. Women and children also participated in the demonstration.
