Mandya: The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi, and the University of Agricultural Sciences (UAS), Mandya, have signed an agreement to transfer the administrative control of the Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) in Mandya, Hassan and Chamarajanagar from the University of Agricultural Sciences, Bengaluru, to UAS Mandya.The agreement was signed at the office of Rajbir Singh, deputy director general (agricultural extension), ICAR, in New Delhi. UAS Mandya vice-chancellor KC Narayanaswamy signed the agreement on behalf of the university.The transfer of the three KVKs is expected to strengthen agricultural extension services and improve the spread of new farming technologies in Mandya, Hassan and Chamarajanagar districts. It will also help improve coordination between agricultural education, research and extension activities.

The signing ceremony was attended by Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute (ATARI), Bengaluru director M Prabhakar, UAS Mandya director (research) GM Devagiri, and UAS Mandya director of extension C. Ramachandra. Senior officials of ICAR were also present.Krishi Vigyan Kendras provide farmers with training, field demonstrations, on-farm trials, advisory services and information on modern farming practices. With the three KVKs coming under UAS Mandya, the university will be able to provide better support to farmers by addressing local agricultural issues and promoting technologies suited to the region.University officials said the agreement is an important step in strengthening the extension network of UAS Mandya and will help promote sustainable agriculture and improve farmers’ livelihoods.
