Kokernag, July 2: The Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Kokernag, has ordered the immediate closure of the Sinthan–Kishtwar Road for all vehicular traffic following extensive damage caused by recent flash floods and cloudbursts.

According to an official order issued by the SDM’s office, the road has sustained severe damage at multiple locations, making it unsafe for the movement of vehicles. The administration cited heightened risks of landslides, road subsidence, falling debris, and further deterioration due to adverse weather conditions.

The order states that the closure has been enforced as a precautionary measure to safeguard public life and prevent any untoward incidents until restoration works are completed and the road is declared fit for traffic by the competent authorities.

“The movement of all vehicular traffic on the Sinthan–Kishtwar Road shall remain completely closed with immediate effect and shall continue to remain suspended till further orders,” the order reads.

The district administration has advised commuters and transport operators to avoid the route and cooperate with the restrictions in the interest of public safety. Travelers are urged to follow official advisories and use alternative routes wherever available.

Authorities are expected to review the situation after an assessment of restoration work and weather conditions before reopening the road.
