Guwahati: Actor Adil Hussain, known for his critically acclaimed performances in theatre and cinema, on Thursday made an emotional appeal on social media, questioning why Assam still lacked a lasting solution to recurring floods despite the country’s technological achievements, including successful space missions to the Moon and Mars.Referring to the devastating floods in upper Assam, Hussain, who hails from Goalpara, said, “We have been seeing the floods since we were born but never with the intensity seen this time. If we can send satellites and spacecraft to Moon and Mars, then I can never believe we cannot find a permanent solution to Assam’s flood. The fact is we are lazy and apathetic. We do not care for our people.”Hussain urged multinational corporations, national companies operating in Assam and major business houses that had benefited from the state’s resources to use their corporate social responsibility funds to find a permanent solution to the flood problem.“MNCs and national companies who operate from Assam and business houses should put all their CSR funds into finding this solution. Business houses who have earned crores from Assam and the govt — if they cannot find a solution, we will believe that you do not care for the people of Assam,” he said.Appealing to policymakers and industry leaders, Hussain added, “So this is my request to all the concerned people, those who are in position of power, those who have the money and they must find the will to figure out how to resolve this problem for good. I hope that happens.”The actor’s nieces were stranded after their homes in Sivasagar were submerged.
