Mysuru: The members of the Joint Action Committee comprising Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha, Dalita Sangharsha Samithi, Pariskarakaagi Naavu, Bhoomi Thaayi Horata Samithi and pro-Kannada and progressive organisations and other like-minded forums have urged the Lok Sabha leader of opposition Rahul Gandhi to intervene to stop kambala during the Mysuru Dasara festival. In an email, the committee members, including former MLA AT Ramaswamy, stated the state govt has adopted a dictatorial and unilateral policy in this regard which is detrimental to democracy. “The proposal to organise kambala, which draws massive crowds, has created deep resentment and anger among the people of Mysuru. Kambala during Dasara is being opposed not only by the people of Mysuru, but also by the people of coastal Karnataka due to various reasons, including the cultural significance,” they stated in the letter.“Austerity and judicious use of water should be its mantra. Spending lavishly on an unnecessary event like kambala would be highly insensitive,” they claimed.
