Puri: Puri administration has initiated action against 32 hotels over alleged violations related to land use, building plans and construction norms. The hotels have been served notices following directions from Odisha housing and urban development department over suspected unauthorised land-use changes, plan violations and construction beyond permissible height limits.Collector (Puri) Dibya Jyoti Parida said, “The concerned hotels have been directed to comply with applicable rules. The Puri Municipal Corporation (pmc) is also examining the alleged violations and will take action as per law.” PMC joint commissioner Abhimanyu Behera said the crackdown comes amid heightened scrutiny of unauthorised constructions following observations by the Supreme Court on illegal structures. Officials are examining whether land-use changes were carried out without approval, sanctioned building plans were violated or structures exceeded the permitted height. The administration is now expected to decide on further action against the 32 hotels, while accountability of officials, if any lapses are established, could also come under the scanner. Questions have also been raised over how such structures received official clearances and power connections despite the alleged violations.
