Jind: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested a GST department ETO and a chartered accountant (CA) for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 3 lakh in exchange for settling a tax evasion case. The ACB team apprehended the CA at his office on Bhiwani road and the ETO from the GST office located at the mini secretariat. A case has been registered against both under the prevention of corruption act, and they are being questioned.Aman, a resident of Igrah village of Jind district, told the ACB in his complaint that the GST department had issued him a notice regarding alleged tax evasion amounting to around Rs 75 lakh. According to the complainant, GST department ETO Divesh Sahu was demanding a bribe of Rs 5 lakh through CA Ajay Sharma in exchange for settling the matter.Based on the complaint, an ACB team was formed led by inspector Mahender Singh. Deepanshu, an SDO of the Irrigation Department, Julana, was appointed as the duty magistrate. The ACB applied signatures and chemical powder to the Rs 3 lakh currency notes and handed them over to the complainant.The complainant then contacted ETO Divesh Sahu, who instructed him to go to CA Ajay Sharma’s office on Bhiwani road. The complainant subsequently handed over Rs 3 lakh to CA Ajay Sharma. Following the signal, the ACB team immediately apprehended the CA. The Rs 3 lakh was recovered during the search. When his hands were washed, the colour of the chemical on his hands turned red. During questioning of the CA, the name of ETO Divesh Sahu emerged. The ACB team then reached the GST department office at the mini secretariat and arrested the ETO as well, said officials.
